A refreshing and compassionate approach

After graduating, Andreea’s* mental health became more challenging as she navigated the employment market in the hope of finding a career that resonated with her passion.  Each application became a reminder of her insecurities, and with each rejection, she felt more defeated.  Then she met Shayna, her dedicated Employment Specialist.  Shayna helped to rebuild Andreea’s confidence in herself and created a safe space to voice fears.  Andreea has now found a job that’s the perfect fit for her!  Here she tells us her inspirational story in her own words…

Mental health challenges have affected every aspect of my life for a long time. After graduating last year, this struggle intensified as I embarked on the quest to find a job that resonated with my passions.

The process proved far more challenging than I had anticipated.  Each application became a reminder of my insecurities, and with each rejection, I felt a little more defeated.

It was during this vulnerable time that I met Shayna, my Employment Specialist. By the time we crossed paths, I was burdened with self-doubt and apprehension. However, Shayna saw beyond the surface; she saw me as a whole person struggling with my mental health, yet capable of achieving something meaningful.

Shayna’s approach was refreshing and compassionate. Rather than pushing me toward positions that wouldn’t suit me, she invested time in understanding my strengths and limitations. With patience and empathy, she helped rebuild my confidence and created a safe space for me to voice my fears. We worked together to set realistic goals, and she provided support at every step, from updating my resume to preparing for interviews.

When we founded a job opportunity that seemed a perfect fit, I was afraid that my depression and anxiety would get in the way. Yet, Shayna's faith in my abilities and her positive attitude encouraged me to confront my fears. Through her support, I began to realize that I could achieve far more than I had previously imagined.

Looking back, I never imagined that I could find a job where I would not only feel fulfilled but also supported. My Employment Specialist's dedication, patience, and understanding made all the difference. Shayna didn’t just help me find work; she helped me find hope.

Now I am in a much better place. The road ahead may still have its challenges, but with the right support, I've learned to move forward, one step at a time. Anything is possible; I've got to dream like I've never seen obstacles. Thank you, Shayna!
