From redundancy to the best job of my career!

Redundancy had caused Reyansh to develop a deep depression, and job hunting had proved demoralising, making an already difficult time, much worse.  When Reyansh met Twining Enterprise and his dedicated Employment Specialist, Monica, his expectations were low, but due to Monica’s deep understanding of the technology sector and her investment in Reyansh’s journey, he felt fully supported.  After working closely with Monica, Reyansh ended up landing the best job of his career!  Here, Reyansh tells us his inspirational story in his own words…

I’d had a long and successful career in the technology sector, but when my employer made me redundant through no fault of my own, it sent me into a deep depression.  I contacted my GP who said I should talk to someone to help me get over the depression.  That’s how I met Monica, my Twining Enterprise Employment Specialist.

When we started working together, I had already been applying for jobs for around six months.  I found the process so disheartening; I would put in a job application and within minutes I would get a rejection back.  It felt so demoralising that based on reviewing my application for just a few minutes, people were deciding I wasn’t right for the job.

I felt like Monica really understood the situation and immediately started helping me by looking at some of my job applications.  Over the coming months, working with Monica, I started to get some really good job interviews.  However, I still wasn’t getting any job offers, so Monica suggested we do a mock interview together.  I felt that Monica understood my role so well, that she could deliver a really realistic job interview.  It really gave me confidence that I was being supported by someone who really knew my sector.

Within a couple of months of working with Monica I landed a new job!  And it turns out it was the best job I have ever had in my entire career!  So, things have worked out so well for me – from being in that difficult place after redundancy – to being in my best ever job!

I think what worked so well, is that Monica had a high level of intelligence, which enabled her to understand my sector.  I really respect her for her intelligence in my industry.

Monica also took a real interest in what she was doing.  I didn’t feel like it was a duty for her.  It felt like she really wanted to help me.  It felt like she was really committed to me and invested in my journey.  It felt like she was on the journey with me.  Anyone would hugely benefit from working with Monica, she has exceptional skills in what she does.

I’m in my new job now, but I still had a few monthly calls with Monica after I had started.  Monica was curious about how things were going in the new job, and I reported back on progress or where things maybe weren’t moving as fast as I would have liked.  The calls really helped as she was able to share her employment experiences which I found useful and reassuring.

In terms of the depression I experienced when I was made redundant, I am much happier now; I am doing a better job, in a better place.  This is the best job of my career!

When I was initially referred to Twining Enterprise I was in a depressed state of mind, and if I’m honest I wasn’t expecting a lot from the service.  I imagined it would be ‘just another service’ - but the return I got and the engagement I experienced from Monica was much, much more than I ever anticipated.  I am so grateful to Twining and Monica for that.  Monica should do very well in her career - she is excellent!
